My favorite advice for a deep meditation.

The other day I sat in a meditation led by my friend Emily.

Right as we started to drop in she said something that I loved…

“Thoughts are not the enemy of meditation, effort is.”

I let the words wash over me and suddenly I was struck with a vision of a powerful, flowing river. My body started to tingle as I realized that this river flows without any effort.

My vision expanded to the horizon and I saw a thunderous sky, pouring rain…with no effort.

Then I pulled all the way back into space and saw the whole word rotating on its axis…again, with no effort.

My mediation was one of the most enjoyable I’ve had in a while.

Her words were a beautiful reminder of just how much can happen when we make room for no effort. When we stop trying to control our experience and simply become the observer of it.
